Point-by-point stats

  • BLR: Balanced Leverage Ratio. Essentially, the average importance (or leverage) of points won, divided by the importance of points lost. A clutch performance will score above 1.0, with a neutral performance at exactly 1.0. BLR is not very useful for lopsided matches, in which few points matter very much at all.
  • DR+: Dominance Ratio plus, which I introduced along with BLR. DR+ is DR multiplied by BLR. DR is similar to total points won, as a good first-order proxy of how well a player performed. DR+ incorporates the clutchness of the performance, which eliminates many of the situations in which a player loses a match despite a DR above 1.0.
  • EI: Excitement Index: the average leverage of all points, multiplied by 1000. The average EI in a three-set match is higher than in a five-set match, because points early in the match have a more direct influence on the eventual result.
  • CBF: Comeback Factor: how much the winner needed to come back. Calculated as the reciprocal of the lowest win probability held by the winner at any point in the match. If the winner led for the entire match, the lowest win probability was 50% (at the beginning) and thus the CBF was the minimum possible of 2.0. The higher the CBF, the bigger the comeback.
  • Deuce A%: Ace percentage on deuce-court points (not available for all matches).
  • Deuce SPW%: Rate of serve points won on deuce-court points.
  • Ad A%: Ace percentage on ad-court points (not available for all matches).

  • Ad SPW%: Rate of return points won on ad-court points.
