{"id":702,"date":"2012-03-23T03:59:29","date_gmt":"2012-03-23T07:59:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/heavytopspin.com\/?p=702"},"modified":"2012-03-23T03:59:29","modified_gmt":"2012-03-23T07:59:29","slug":"2012-miami-projections-2nd-round","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennisabstract.com\/blog\/2012\/03\/23\/2012-miami-projections-2nd-round\/","title":{"rendered":"2012 Miami Projections: 2nd Round"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every 2nd-rounder in Miami is between a seed and a non-seed, so we&#8217;re on full-time upset watch for the next two days. \u00a0(Barring withdrawals, anyway.) \u00a0There are plenty to keep an eye out for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennisabstract.com\/cgi-bin\/player.cgi?p=GuillermoGarciaLopez\">Guillermo Garcia-Lopez<\/a> vs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennisabstract.com\/cgi-bin\/player.cgi?p=ViktorTroicki\">Viktor Troicki<\/a>. \u00a0Troicki has never been a very convincing seed, and GGL is coming off of a big win over <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennisabstract.com\/cgi-bin\/player.cgi?p=AndyMurray\">Andy Murray<\/a> at Indian Wells. \u00a0Qualifiers don&#8217;t come any tougher than the Spainard.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennisabstract.com\/cgi-bin\/player.cgi?p=BernardTomic\">Bernard Tomic<\/a> vs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennisabstract.com\/cgi-bin\/player.cgi?p=DavidFerrer\">David Ferrer<\/a>. \u00a0The surface is on Tomic&#8217;s side; everything else tilts to Ferrer. \u00a0But my algorithm like&#8217;s the Aussie&#8217;s chances, setting the match awfully close to equal.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennisabstract.com\/cgi-bin\/player.cgi?p=NicolasAlmagro\">Nicolas Almagro<\/a> vs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennisabstract.com\/cgi-bin\/player.cgi?p=DavidGoffin\">David Goffin<\/a>. 62\/38 usually doesn&#8217;t qualify as an upset-in-the-making. \u00a0This one&#8217;s closer than I would&#8217;ve expected, thanks to Almagro&#8217;s inconsistency on hardcourts. \u00a0Goffin doesn&#8217;t have much in the way of weapons, but that didn&#8217;t stop him from taking out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennisabstract.com\/cgi-bin\/player.cgi?p=DonaldOYoung\">Donald Young<\/a> yesterday.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennisabstract.com\/cgi-bin\/player.cgi?p=KevinAnderson\">Kevin Anderson<\/a> vs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennisabstract.com\/cgi-bin\/player.cgi?p=SamQuerrey\">Sam Querrey<\/a>. \u00a0Almost dead-even. \u00a0As if you didn&#8217;t already one this one would be decided in two or three tiebreaks.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennisabstract.com\/cgi-bin\/player.cgi?p=DavidNalbandian\">David Nalbandian<\/a> vs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennisabstract.com\/cgi-bin\/player.cgi?p=JankoTipsarevic\">Janko Tipsarevic<\/a>. In case you ever need an example of when ATP rankings aren&#8217;t enough. \u00a0My algorithm gives Nalbandian the slight edge; I have to imagine that any fan would give the Argentine a bigger one.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennisabstract.com\/cgi-bin\/player.cgi?p=NikolayDavydenko\">Nikolay Davydenko<\/a> vs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennisabstract.com\/cgi-bin\/player.cgi?p=JohnIsner\">John Isner<\/a>. \u00a0I have this one set at 69\/31 in Isner&#8217;s favor, but Davydenko does have the sort of game that
